2000 Outstanding Student in Two-Year Program
Three Outstanding Students in two-year programs were honored in spring 2000 ceremonies at their campuses.
Wildlife Technology Program
Teresa M. Morrison
As a student, Teresa was an honors student, a recipient of the Pennsylvania Wildlife Habitat Unlimited Scholarship, and a Who's Who Among American Collegiate Students honoree. She was active at the Penn State DuBois campus as a Lion Ambassador, a peer tutor, and a member of the Good Offices Committee. Upon graduation in May 2000, Teresa began a new job with Herpetological Associates, Inc., as a Pennsylvania regional manager.
Forest Technology Program
Valerie D. Sauter
Valerie was a returning student who continued her education in forest technology after earning an associate of arts degree from Prince George's Community College and attending the University of Maryland. She and her husband, Don, have two children. Valerie graduated in May 2000 with an associate of science degree in Forest Technology on the Dean's List and in the top of her class. As well as being an excellent student, Valerie has made a commitment to continued learning by working and volunteering in positions that help her gain valuable field experience in wildlife, forestry, and natural resource management. While a student at Penn State Mont Alto, she worked part-time as a Penn State research assistant conducting amphibian and reptile surveys. She has worked as a natural resource intern with the U.S. Park Service in the Katmai National Park in Alaska and has also served as a volunteer for the Pennsylvania Bureau of Forestry's timber crew. Valerie also worked in the campus Learning Center as a tutor and was an active member of the Timbersports team.
Golf Course Turfgrass Management Program
Jeffrey M. MacLean
Jeffrey is a 1989 graduate of Cole Harbour District High School in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. Prior to entering the Golf Course Turfgrass Management Program at Penn State, Jeff worked at the Nicklaus North Golf Course in Whistler, British Columbia, as the maintenance crew foreman. Jeff graduated with a 3.8 grade-point average.
